About Us

Globeleq is an experienced power company that operates and actively develops power projects across Africa. The company is committed to providing safe, reliable and affordable power to the grid in an economically sustainable fashion and we aim to catalyse a significant increase in power generation capacity across the continent.

CDC founded Globeleq in 2002 and has remained a major investor in the company although its interest was managed by Actis LLP, a private equity fund manager, between 2004 and 2015. Since it was founded, the company has become a power industry leader in the emerging markets by operating or acquiring interest in multiple power facilities totalling nearly 14,000 MW of generation capacity in more than 27 countries.

Today, under the joint ownership of CDC (70%) and Norfund (30%), Globeleq is focused exclusively on Africa and is uniquely positioned to invest in, develop and operate power projects across this region.

Private sector participation is essential to meet energy investment needs in full, but mobilising private investors and capital will require a concerted effort to reduce political and regulatory uncertainties.
