Globeleq employees contribute to tsunami relief
Globeleq, its employees and directors donated more than US$60,000 to relief in South Asia following the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami. Employees and directors donated more than US$14,000 to 10 organizations, including the International, British and American Red Cross, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, UNICEF, World Vision, Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders and Americares. Globeleq matched those donations to each organization on a three-for-one basis in addition to Globeleq’s initial donation of US$5,000 to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies (IFRC).
In a letter accompanying each donation, Bob Hart wrote: ‘Globeleq and its employees are committed to being part of and participating in the communities served by our generating plants. . . . As an operating power company focused on the emerging markets, we are keenly aware of the need to ensure access to basic infrastructure – clean water, adequate shelter and reliable energy.’
The Globeleq matching donations were sent in early April, 2005.
