Globeleq integrates interim power service company, Empower Limited

Empower Limited, which provides interim power services to the emerging markets, has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Globeleq Generation Limited, an operating power generation company solely focused on the emerging markets of Africa, the Americas and Asia.

Both Globeleq and Empower are owned by Actis, a leading private equity investor in emerging markets.   With Actis initially providing financial and strategic support to Empower during its development and startup phase, the extensive experience of the Globeleq team will ensure a seamless transition into an operational platform.

Both Globeleq and Empower have a depth of experience in power generation and the emerging markets and the sharing and transfer of knowledge and expertise between the two organisations will be invaluable.  The combination will establish a stronger presence in the emerging markets enabling broader coverage– from interim power to larger IPP projects.  This also encourages more opportunity for innovation and increase in design flexibility for potential projects.

Empower endeavours to provide affordable, flexible and simple power generation services to specific target customers who require power facilities within a short time frame.  Empower currently has 60MW of containerised plant ready for installation and is currently focusing on placement of these assets.  Globeleq is fully supportive of this strategy to deploy Empower’s existing asset base in order to maximise the value of the business.

Luka Buljan, who has been leading Empower’s business since its inception in 2007, will be joining the Globeleq management team, reporting directly to Globeleq’s CEO, Mikael Karlsson.  He will continue to manage the company as a separate business unit of the Globeleq group, providing leadership and focus to his team and enable a successful implementation of the strategy.

The focus of the Globeleq group remains unchanged, actively developing energy solutions for the emerging markets in Africa, the Americas and Asia.  Both Globeleq and Empower are committed to developing economically sustainable businesses that support the continued development of the electric power sector and facilitate improvement of the economy and lives of those living in these regions.
