
Globeleq breaks ground on Bangladesh hospital
Ground was broken on July 12 for the 30-bed Globeleq Ibrahim General Hospital at the Meghnaghat Power Plant outside Dhaka. The Hospital is a joint project of Globeleq and the Bangladesh Diabetic Association and will serve the medical needs of the local community,
Mr. Torbjorn Caesar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Globeleq and Dr Azad Khan, Secretary General of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (DAB) unveiled the corner stone commemorating the two organizations’ commitment to building the new facility. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Arun Sen, Globeleq Executive Vice President for Asia; M. Moyeedul Islam, Vice President, DAB; Mr. J Edward Barndt, Managing Director, Globeleq Bangladesh Operations; senior government. Officials and representatives of the local communities.
At the ceremony, Globeleq CEO Torbjorn Caesar said, “Globeleq is committed to being positively engaged in the communities where we operate. We are pleased to be working with the DAB, whose expertise in hospital operations and respected position in Bangladesh is very important to the success of our efforts.”
Mr. J. Edward Barndt, who is responsible for Globeleq’s operations in Bangladesh, commented, “Our community and social activities are very important to everyone who works in the power plants. The management teams at Meghnaghat and Haripur worked diligently in cooperation with DAB to make this project a reality.”
Dr Azad Khan Secretary said that the DAB has been relentlessly working to provide health care for all the people of Bangladesh through its hospital network. As a part of its mission this hospital is being established and it will full fledged start functioning from Nov, 2007. This hospital will be brought under Telemedicine program and patients of this hospital will get services of the reputed Medical Specialists of Dhaka and there will also be arrangement to transfer the critical patients of this hospital to other specialized hospital of DAB
Mr. Arun Sen, Executive Vice President for Asia, said “Globeleq is owner and operator of power business in many different communities. We see it as our own responsibility to give back to the communities through projects such as this hospital”.
The hospital will be built on land in the village of Kaliganj village, 40 Kilometers from Dhaka. The two- storey building will have all the facilities of a general hospital as well as facilities for emergency services. It is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2007. The facility will help ensure the stability of healthcare systems for future generations and provide medical support for the local Community.
Participation in the construction of the hospital was a commitment made when the Meghnaghat and Haripur plants were first constructed.
