Globeleq Appoints Jonathan Hoffman as CDO

LONDON:  10 August 2020:  Globeleq, the leading independent power producer in Africa, announced the appointment of Jonathan Hoffman to the newly created position of Chief Development Officer (CDO).  Jonathan has led business development activities in Southern Africa as a Managing Director since 2015. He originated and managed Globeleq’s growth into target countries such as South Africa and Mozambique.

The CDO role will unify the company’s growth strategy. Jonathan’s deal-making skills and knowledge of the power sector in diverse regions place him in a unique position to lead an experienced power development and investment team dedicated to growth.

Starting with Globeleq in 2010, Jonathan’s leadership was instrumental in securing South Africa’s very first wind and solar ventures and building a robust pipeline of projects across the region.  In recent years, Jonathan helped to secure the Temane gas-fired power and the Cuamba solar storage projects in Mozambique.  He continues to support the regional team to bring these deals to financial close.

Mike Scholey, Globeleq’s CEO commented, “We are delighted to have someone of Jonathan’s calibre in this new role, as he leverages his experience to provide guidance and leadership to the team, enabling the building of more MWs of much needed electricity.”  The role of CDO will be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

“Globeleq plays a vital role in helping to address the power deficit in Africa,” added Jonathan.  “I am deeply passionate about the ways we can continue to make a positive impact as Globeleq provides reliable power and innovative solutions across Africa. I look forward to leading our incredible team of business developers and investment professionals as we advance the business.”

Jonathan previously worked for ABB Energy Ventures on landmark projects, Bear Stearns in M&A, and co-founded InfraCo pioneering infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia. He has more than 18 years experience in the power and other infrastructure sectors, working extensively across Africa, South-East Asia, India, Europe and parts of the Americas.
