Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm Helps bring Health Care to Community Moms and Babies

Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm has announced their support and funding of the Healthy Mom and Baby Clinic’s (HMBC) newly launched Mobile Clinic. The Mobile Clinic aims to bring much-needed postnatal care to mothers and children within the Jeffreys Bay community.

The HMBC was founded in 2002 due to an overwhelming need in the community for a specialized clinic that focused on improving the health of mothers and children. This non-profit organization is committed to delivering professional private care to the most vulnerable and underprivileged women of the Jeffreys Bay community, in partnership with the Department of Health and its various financial donors.

“We acknowledge the incredibly important role that the Healthy Mom and Baby Clinic plays within our communities and are honoured to be able to assist in making their services available to the more remote area in Jeffreys Bay. Furthermore, the Mobile Clinic is powered by clean, green renewable energy – the fitted solar panels power its’ fridge and electrical points making this initiative a perfect fit for our funding” says Marion Thompson-Green, Economic Development Director for Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm. Eco-friendly ceiling insulation was also installed for extra energy savings

The main objectives of the Mobile Clinic is to offer postnatal support, monitoring and continual assessment of the growth, development and needs of the babies and young children in the Jeffreys Bay community, as well as the supply of food and clothing to the mother or caretaker where necessary.

The Mobile Clinic was the vision of a Dutch volunteer, who used her own 4×4 vehicle to offer the necessary support in the community. In July 2014, two trusts based in the Netherlands, namely Turn the Tide Trust and Wilde Ganzen, raised funds for the purchase of this new vehicle.

With the investment of R200 000 from Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm the Clinic will be able to operate and provide services in the more inaccessible areas. It also been able to employ a Nurse Assistant as well as make provision for the employment of a full-time Professional Nurse in the near future.

The Mobile Clinic has been kitted out with all necessary requirements, and was ready to start visiting crèches and families for the very first time last week.
